There are two kinds of IELTS. One is Academic while another is General Training. Every student attempts the same listening and speaking tests but there are a different set of reading and writing tests. All these sets are carried out on the very same day. There is no break between these sets. So, students need to be prepared for this vigorous testing as well.
The IELTS Academic test is made for those students who are looking forward to study in universities located in English speaking countries such as Australia, Canada and the United States of America. One can take the IELTS academic test not only for the admissions in universities of english speaking countries but also for professional registration. The main objective of the IELTS Academic Test is that it quantifies whether the student or aspirant is ready to start studying in English language or not. Many questions come from vocabularies that is mostly used in academic setting.
For this, we at Wider Globe, provide ample notes to our students to get them acquainted with vocabularies that are mostly used in the academic settings. We also provide training with such vocabularies such that students mark the correct answer in the IELTS Academic Test. Usually, 90 percent of the vocabulary comes are standard that are used in academic settings. The rest 10 percent of vocabulary might be difficult for native speakers as well. But, we at Wider Globe, provide this mindset that we need to focus on the low hanging fruit first and only then start targetting for those vocabularies with whom not even the native English speakers are not familiar with.
So, our booklet compiles all the vocabularies from the formal setting, office parlance, academic research papers etc that give an edge to our students from our peers. Our teachers are equipped with high quality research material that provides the kind of vocabulary that can be asked in the question paper of IELTS Academic. This serves two purposes: one, it saves our students' time and effort and second, there is high chance of getting success in the first attempt of IELTS Academic.
Apart from academic vocabularies, there are other sets of questions that are asked too. The listening test has the duration of 30 minutes. In this test, there are four parts. In each part, there are ten questions each. So, total number of questions is 40 and the time is approximately 30 minutes. One should note that while writing the answer in the answer book, one must pay attention to spelling and grammar because the wrong spelling and grammar will fetch negative marks.
Another task is matching in which students have to match lists after listening to the text. In this, the number of questions are variable.
Another task is planning, mapping, and diagram labelling that helps the examiner to understand the ability of student to describe a place and his ability to correlate with visual settings. In this task too, there are variable questions.
Other tasks include summary completion, form and note completion. There are no set of fixed questions under this task. Sentence completion is also another task in which gaps are to be filled by the students. If student exceeds the word limit, then marks are deducted. One should remember that hyphenated words are counted as single word. They are not counted as two words.
After attempting above tasks, the band score is calculated from the band score conversion. The score that comes is out of 40. It is the practice of IELTS that the scores obtained are reported in whole bands and half bands. Care must be taken that answer writing should not have any kind of spelling mistake and poor grammar to get good band of score.
